As Super Bowl Sunday nears, the City of Brookfield Fire Department shared safety tips for home cooking and food handling. According to the City of Brookfield WI Fire Department's Facebook post, they advised never leaving cooking appliances unattended, keeping flammable items away from heat sources, and using timers to prevent food from burning.
For food safety, they recommended keeping hot foods at 140 °F or above and cold foods at 40 °F or below, using thermometers to check meat temperatures, and quickly chilling leftovers in shallow containers. Slow cookers and warming trays should be kept away from flammable items and clutter, with timers used to monitor cooking.
The department reminded residents to follow these precautions to prevent fires and food-related illnesses during Super Bowl celebrations.
