Commuters experienced delays on State Road 408 near the University of Central Florida as Orange County firefighters battled a brush fire. As ClickOrlando reported, the fire prompted the closure of all lanes along the stretch, causing substantial rerouting of traffic; however, by the evening, officials had reopened the roadway.
The Florida Highway Patrol verified that both the westbound on-ramp to SR-408 from westbound SR-50 was shut down and lanes on SR-408 in both directions were impacted for several hours which forced drivers to find alternate routes, the ordeal began to resolve as lanes reopened and normal traffic resumed. According to the Florida Forest Service, firefighters achieved a 100% containment of the fire by around 6:30 p.m.
During the incident, various emergency vehicles were at the scene to ensure the safety of nearby communities and manage the ensuing traffic jam. The Florida Highway Patrol acted swiftly to reroute traffic at SR-50 to help commuters steer clear of the fire-affected zones.
Recovery from the disruptive brush fire culminated as lanes cleared, and traffic flow returned to its typical pace, WESH reported.
