Kristi Tucker-Fleischfresser, the longtime administrator of Pleasant Lake Lodge in Cadillac, was arraigned this week on criminal charges after prosecutors say a 60-year-old resident died from diabetic complications under her watch. The woman was admitted to the facility on Nov. 1, 2022, and was found dead in her bed on Nov. 5, 2022, according to prosecutors. Tucker-Fleischfresser, 39, now faces counts that include involuntary manslaughter, falsifying medical records and obstructing an investigation.
What Prosecutors Say Went Wrong
Prosecutors allege the resident had been prescribed two types of insulin but never received either medication while living at the home. Despite that, staff records were later altered to show insulin doses had been given, according to charging documents. The case led to one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of falsifying medical records and one count of obstructing an investigation after a probe into the November 2022 death, as reported by The Detroit News.
Attorney General Steps In
The Michigan Attorney General's Health Care Fraud Division is prosecuting the case in partnership with the Michigan State Police after the Wexford County prosecutor referred it upward. "Adult foster care administrators are entrusted with the lives of vulnerable adults, and failing to provide life-saving medication is unacceptable," Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement to 9&10 News.

Pleasant Lake Lodge operates multiple adult foster care homes in the Cadillac area. State licensing records list the North location as an adult large group home with space for up to 20 residents, according to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. LARA's public profile also shows special investigation reports involving the facility from June 2024, and the lodge's own website notes that Tucker-Fleischfresser has served as administrator since 2009, per Pleasant Lake Lodge.
The Charges And Potential Prison Time
The criminal counts carry serious prison exposure under Michigan law. Involuntary manslaughter can mean up to 15 years behind bars. Falsifying medical records is a felony that can bring up to four years on each count. Obstructing an investigation is a misdemeanor that can carry up to two years. The Attorney General's Health Care Fraud Division, which serves as Michigan's federally certified Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, is handling the prosecution, The Detroit News reports.
What Happens Next In Court
Judge Corey J. Wiggins granted Tucker-Fleischfresser a personal recognizance bond but ordered her to wear a GPS tether and barred her from providing direct adult foster care. A probable cause conference is set for March 3, with a preliminary examination scheduled for March 10 in Cadillac, according to 9&10 News. As the case moves through the courts, state investigators and the Attorney General's office say they hope the charges push other licensed homes to revisit how they handle medication protocols and documentation.
