In light of the escalating need for clarity Cary Police Chief Terry Sult led an inquiry into the matter, uncovering records that involved Stegall relating to an address that saw police activities between 2016 and 2017 although no charges have been brought against Stegall, Sult expressed his confidence in the continuation of professional, impartial law enforcement in Cary. "No charges were ever brought against Mr. Stegall in this matter, and there’s nothing in my inquiry that warrants further action," Chief Sult stated, reassuring the community of the department's commitment to upholding the law.
