A late-night family celebration at Hollywood’s Jaycee Hall ended in gunfire more than a year ago, leaving two men dead and two others wounded in the parking lot. The case is still open, and loved ones of the victims, publicly identified by family as Taron Nicks and Octavis Jackson, are still waiting for answers.
Reward Offered To Shake Loose New Leads
Broward Crime Stoppers is now putting cash on the table for information in the December 1, 2024, shooting outside the banquet hall, according to Local 10. The nonprofit says tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a reward if they help lead to an arrest, and investigators are hoping the money nudges anyone who has been staying quiet to finally speak up.
What Police Say Happened Outside Jaycee Hall
Hollywood police say officers were called to the Jaycee Hall event space at 2930 Hollywood Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. on December 1, 2024, and found four people suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene and a second later died at Memorial Regional Hospital, according to WLRN. Detectives have said the gunfire followed an argument outside the hall and have been looking into vehicle movements that may be tied to the shooting.
Family Grieves, Venue Vows Tighter Rules
Relatives identified the two people killed as Nicks and Jackson, and friends and family have remembered Jackson as a father and longtime presence in the community, according to WSVN. Jaycee Hall manager Debra Gronvold told reporters the gathering “wasn’t a crazy party” and said the venue plans to tighten security and event rules in the wake of the shooting.
How To Help Investigators
Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or submit a tip through the group’s website, according to Broward Crime Stoppers. Investigators say details like surveillance footage, a possible suspect vehicle description or even a partial license plate can make a real difference in cracking an unsolved shooting.
Case Still Open, Cops Still Looking
Detectives previously said they had identified “several persons of interest” and issued a be-on-the-lookout for a vehicle believed to be connected to the case, but no arrests have been announced, according to WLRN. The current reward is a renewed push by law-enforcement partners to drum up fresh leads in a case that has seen few public developments since the shooting.
Hollywood police have asked anyone who was at the event or who has video from that night to call the department at 954-764-4357 or 954-967-4567. Anonymous tips can also be shared with Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477, according to earlier reporting by Local 10.
