A tense multi-agency SWAT standoff in Celina on Friday ended without shots fired when a man wanted on an aggravated assault warrant surrendered and was taken into custody, according to police. The late-afternoon operation shut down a stretch of FM 455 as tactical teams and negotiators moved in, with local and regional units converging north of the city while officers secured the area and began searching for evidence.
Multi-agency response and arrest
According to MyTexasDaily, citing the Celina Police Department, the operation pulled in Celina police, the Dallas Fugitive Task Force, McKinney police and SWAT units from Prosper and Frisco. The man surrendered to officers and was taken into custody in the 15000 block of FM 455 at about 4:25 p.m., the outlet reported. Authorities connected the arrest to an aggravated assault warrant issued out of Dallas County.
Police statement and scene security
The Celina Police Department told MyTexasDaily that "there is no further threat to the public at this time" and said officers would remain on the property while investigators process the scene. Officials did not immediately release the suspect's name or booking information.
What aggravated-assault charges mean
Under state law, aggravated assault is defined in the Texas Penal Code and is typically prosecuted as a felony. Penalties can range from two to 20 years in prison and fines, and certain circumstances can increase the offense to a first-degree felony. For the statutory language, see Section 22.02 in the Texas Statutes.
What's next
Investigators from the participating agencies will continue processing the property while prosecutors decide where to file formal charges, the Celina Police Department said in its statement. For background on the local agency, see the Celina Police Department.
