In a significant narcotics bust in Charlotte's Steele Creek Division, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Southwest Service Area Crime Reduction Unit pounded the pavement and came away with a haul aimed at curbing drug-related violence within the community. According to the department's social media post, officers executed a search warrant on the 200 block of Edgegreen Drive, uncovering various narcotics, cash, and culminating in one arrest.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of approximately 40 grams of what is suspected to be fentanyl, 58 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 427 grams of suspected marijuana, and around $2,752 in cash. Sixty-year-old Dwayne Eddie Mungo was taken into custody, facing multiple charges including trafficking a Schedule II Controlled Substance for cocaine and opium, felony possession of marijuana, and maintaining a dwelling for drug-related purposes. There echoes a sentiment amongst law enforcement that such interventions are key not only to dismantling narcotics rings but also in preventing the strings of violence often entangled with the drug trade.
In their online statement, the CMPD underscored the significance of the crime reduction efforts: "This case showcases the impact our CRUs are having on reducing victimization. By removing narcotics from our streets, these teams are preventing future violence, strengthening community safety and ultimately saving lives."
The case, bearing the number 20260207-2341-04, is set to undergo further judicial processing, with Mungo's charges painting a serious picture of the illicit drug trade's presence in the urban fabric of Charlotte.
