The U.S. Coast Guard is maintaining a vigilant presence off the coast of South Florida, having recently intercepted a sizable quantity of cocaine. In two separate incidents, the USCG announced the seizure of more than $141.1 million worth of cocaine.

In the larger of the two busts, over $135.5 million worth of cocaine was offloaded in Port Everglades, as reported by NBC Miami. The operation began on Jan. 25 with the interception of a go-fast vessel, from which 4,410 pounds of cocaine were seized. A series of interceptions followed on Jan. 31, when three more vessels were stopped, leading to the confiscation of an additional 13,340 pounds of cocaine. "I am extremely proud of the crew’s incredible performance and adaptability during this deployment," said Capt. Lee Jones in a statement. “This deployment demonstrates our enhanced posture and continued success in the fight against narco-terrorism and transnational criminal organizations. The Coast Guard, in conjunction with our inter-agency and international partners, continues to patrol areas commonly associated with drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific, denying smugglers access to maritime routes by which they move illicit drugs to our U.S. land and sea borders.”

These operations are part of continued efforts by the Coast Guard to staunch the flow of illegal narcotics into the United States. The Coast Guard Cutter Seneca played a pivotal role in these interdictions. Operating in the Eastern Pacific, an area known for drug trafficking, the Seneca and its crew were instrumental in denying smugglers the maritime routes they traditionally use to move illicit drugs toward U.S. borders.

The substantial haul of the Seneca was closely followed by another successful operation. As per WSVN, the Coast Guard seized an estimated 745 pounds of cocaine, roughly valued at $5.6 million, from two boats located about seven miles east of Port Everglades. The Coast Guard’s persistent surveillance and interdiction efforts seem to be persistently disrupting the drug trafficking networks that operate along the Florida coast.

The cumulative weight of the cocaine seized from these incidents tips the scales at over 18,495 pounds, highlighting the significant impact law enforcement agencies are aiming to make in the war against drugs. All of the seized narcotics are set to be destroyed, following standard procedures and protocols.
