Cobb County is opening the floor to public opinion on its yearly assessment of federal grant usage with a call for residents to engage in the review process. As stated in the official announcement, the county will hold a public meeting regarding the 2025 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) on February 25. This report is an essential piece, providing full disclosure on the utilization of CDBG, HOME, and ESG funds which are aimed at community development, affordable housing, and supporting the homeless, respectively.
In the interest of fostering community participation, the public comment period for the CAPER will kick off on February 24, and will run until March 12. This window of time offers ample opportunity for residents to express their views either during the meeting or by sending in written feedback to the CDBG Office's email. These comments are not only encouraged but are a vital component in a process designed to be influenced by the people it seeks to benefit. All contributions from the public will be thoroughly considered prior to the CAPER submission to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on the destined date of March 30, 2026.
In an extension of the county's pledge to equitable practices, Cobb County reasserts its commitment to fair housing and accessibility for all its residents. The authorities have affirmed, "Cobb County affirms its commitment to Equal Opportunity and Fair Housing and does not discriminate in any of its grant programs based on race, color, creed, ethnicity, sex, familial status, age, religion, or disability," as noted in the county's official website. They also assure there should be no displacement as a result of the projects in the report. If, however, displacement were to unexpectedly occur, measures are in place to provide assistance and support to affected individuals, reflecting the county's adherence to federal regulations and its own Residential Anti-Displacement and Relocation Assistance Plan.
