Miami Slice, the cult-followed slice shop that has downtown fans lining up around the block, is officially headed to Coconut Grove. The local favorite is taking over the former Harry’s Pizzeria space across from CocoWalk, with fresh signage now splashed across the McFarlane Road storefront and windows dressed in the brand’s unmistakable graphics and font. Ownership has not revealed an opening date, but this will be Miami Slice’s first full-service outpost in the Grove.
The Grove expansion first popped onto the radar on Tuesday, when Miami New Times spotted the "MIAMI SLICE" sign going up and a short clip from The Hungry Post showing operators inside the space. According to New Times, the team has confirmed the move while keeping details like seating plans and an opening timeline under wraps. The new shop follows a string of pop-ups and a Fontainebleau Las Vegas location that have pushed the brand far beyond its original downtown counter.
From Pop-Up Lab To Local Fixture
Miami Slice launched in 2019 as a low-key pop-up inside La Latina’s kitchen, then evolved into a sliver of a storefront at 1335 NE Miami Ct., where a slim menu and long waits became part of the ritual. The operation is led by Alejandro Díaz, José María Cárdenas and Santiago Huen, according to StarChefs, and that shared kitchen at La Latina doubled as the pizza lab where the team dialed in its dough and signature pies. Industry coverage has tracked the crew’s rise from semi-secret pop-ups to a permanent counter and now to this high-profile Grove address.
What Grove Diners Can Expect
The Coconut Grove shop is expected to stick with Miami Slice’s famously tight, five-pie lineup. That means regulars can look for the Margherita de la Casa, Pepperoni Proper and the Instagram magnet La Salsera, with its pesto and vodka sauce swirl, all built on a dough that cold-ferments for roughly 72 hours. That long fermentation, paired with a high-heat double bake, is what gives the crust its crisp texture and slight tang, according to local coverage from Coconut Grove Spotlight. With more room than the narrow downtown counter, the Grove location should help thin out those peak-night lines that test even the most devoted pizza fans.
Taking Over A Familiar Corner
The new outpost lands at 2996 McFarlane Rd., the former home of Harry’s Pizzeria, which shut its Grove location last spring. The closure of Harry’s sites in Coconut Grove and South Beach was documented in May 2025 by Axios, and local outlets quickly pegged the vacant address as Miami Slice’s likely next move. The arrival of a buzzy slice shop is one of several recent shakeups on McFarlane and the surrounding streets as the Grove’s dining scene keeps reshuffling its deck.
Opening Timeline Still Under Wraps
For now, the owners are not naming a debut date and have declined to get into specifics with reporters while construction continues inside. The company has been tinkering with different formats this year, including pop-ups on Key Biscayne and a spot inside Fontainebleau Las Vegas, a pattern that points to a careful, step-by-step expansion strategy, according to reporting by What Now. Until the ovens fire up, Grove neighbors and downtown regulars will be left refreshing their feeds and peeking through those branded windows for signs of opening day.
The Miami Herald has also covered the Coconut Grove expansion and offered additional background on Miami Slice’s origins and signature pies.
