
Last Saturday at Proud Lake State Recreation Area, a grim turn when a visitor discovered a man’s body in a parking lot near the water, authorities said. The man, believed to be in his 20s, was found in a lot off Wixom Road, and deputies were alerted shortly before 9 a.m. after a passerby called 911.
Discovery and response
According to The Oakland Press, the visitor located the man in the day-use parking area off Wixom Road and notified authorities around 9 a.m. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Officials have not released the man’s name and have not yet disclosed a cause of death.
About the park
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources notes that Proud Lake State Recreation Area spans roughly 3,000 acres and features lakes, walking trails, campgrounds, group gathering areas, and fishing access, with the Huron River running through the property. The park has entrances off both Wixom Road and Glengary Road and draws anglers, hikers, and campers throughout the year.
Investigation ongoing
The Oakland Press reports that investigators remained at the scene and that the county medical examiner will determine the cause of death following an examination. Officials did not immediately release additional details.
