Coroner Names Victim
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Jose Navarette, 56, according to MyNewsLA. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Compton Station were called to the intersection at about 9:38 p.m. Wednesday, a watch commander told City News Service. Paramedics found Navarette unconscious and attempted life-saving measures before he was declared dead. The intersection was shut down while deputies documented the scene and began their investigation.

Officials say the driver sped off in an unknown direction and no description of the vehicle was immediately available, as reported by FOX 11. Deputies were called to the scene just before 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, and despite efforts by responding paramedics, Navarette could not be saved, FOX 11 noted.
