Denver police say they have arrested 30-year-old Chanse Leon Lipscomb in connection with two separate January attacks on women near South Grant Street, bringing a tense neighborhood search to a head. Lipscomb was taken into custody on Feb. 21 and is being held for investigation of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and second-degree attempted kidnapping.

Police say forensic work helped crack the case

According to Denver police, investigators linked Lipscomb to both assaults "based on physical and forensic evidence" gathered from the scenes. Officers say they also reviewed surveillance footage tied to the incidents and combed through items collected at both locations.

The department is holding back Lipscomb's booking photo for now, citing ongoing investigative needs.

Two January attacks and a weeks-long search

As reported by KDVR, the first reported attack happened on Jan. 7 in the 1300 block of South Grant Street. A second, similar assault was reported on Jan. 27 near South Grant Street and East Ellsworth Avenue.

After uncovering additional surveillance footage tied to the Jan. 7 incident, officers released images in early February and asked residents in the surrounding blocks to scour their doorbell and security-camera recordings for anything that might help.

Neighbors asked to comb cameras for clues

Police have urged people who live or work near the attack sites to review any home or business security footage from the relevant dates and share anything suspicious with detectives.

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers lists its anonymous tip line as 720-913-7867 and also accepts tips online.

Ongoing investigation and search for witnesses

Lipscomb remains in custody while detectives and prosecutors continue to review the case, and authorities say the investigation is still active.

"We understand that these incidents create fear in our communities, and we are utilizing every investigative means to find the person(s) who attacked these women," the Denver Police Department wrote in a social media post about the arrest.

In that same post, investigators said they are looking for additional witnesses, including two men seen riding a skateboard and a Good Samaritan who intervened in one of the attacks. Anyone with information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers or call the Denver police non-emergency line.
