Casa MX has taken over a converted house near Coral Gables, turning a quiet Coral Way residence into a Mexico City inspired, homey restaurant with a shareable, family-style menu and an agave heavy cocktail list. The independently owned spot opened in late January and is already booking up for dinner and weekend lunch.
From House To Table
Owner Mario Bernal, a hospitality veteran whose résumé includes The Hotel Victor, The Setai and a decade with the José Andrés Group, led the transformation and officially opened Casa MX on January 24, as reported by Time Out. Bernal brought in executive chef Kevin Acosta and beverage manager Anthony Sanchez to run the kitchen and bar, aiming for an approachable dinner-and-drinks setup that can easily stretch into those long, lingering lunches.
Design And Seating
Bogotá based architect Manuel Lizarralde reimagined the 2,800 square foot residence with layered greens, rattan lighting and artwork nodding to Mexico City, according to Miami New Times. The former home is now carved into smaller dining rooms with a patio and bar, including a 52 seat patio and an 86 seat dining room setup, as noted by the outlet.
Menu And Cocktails
Chef Kevin Acosta’s menu leans into bright, citrusy flavors with ceviches, scallop tostadas and octopus aguachile, alongside larger shareable plates like beef ribs glazed in guajillo beer and a whole pescado a la talla. The beverage program keeps agave spirits front and center, with the Casa MX Margarita sharing space with creative options like Tiger’s Milk, according to the restaurant’s published menu on Casa MX.
Reservations And Early Buzz
Reservations run through OpenTable, which lists hours, phone number and shows the restaurant being booked multiple times on busy nights. Local coverage has been rolling in since the opening, giving the Coral Way house-turned-restaurant some extra spotlight; the Miami Herald is among the outlets that have recently featured the debut.
Hours And Practicals
Casa MX currently serves dinner Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m., with weekend lunch and extended hours on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant’s site notes that hours may expand to daily lunch and brunch in the coming months, according to Casa MX. Phone details and reservation links are available on the site for anyone planning a visit.
