
The City of Coral Springs has recently recognized six outstanding volunteers for their commitment to enhancing city life, each honored with a Lynne Johnson Award. The ceremony, held at City Hall last Saturday, celebrated contributions across various facets of community service, from youth programs and environmental efforts to sports and the arts.
Among those honored, Valerie Campbell received the "Seniors Making a Difference" award for her unwavering three-year service with the Coral Springs Police Department’s Summer Youth Program and the Angel Tree Toy Distribution. According to a statement obtained by Coral Springs government website, she has been instrumental in providing toys to more than 1,000 children annually and has been a foundational support where she was needed.
For her dedication to the Coral Springs Community Garden, Satya Rudin was honored for "Enhancing and Preserving the Natural Environment in Coral Springs." As a Master Gardener, she donated over 200 pounds of organic produce to address local hunger and has been essential in fostering inclusive spaces for gardeners from varied cultural backgrounds.
Denise Fatigate was celebrated for "Working with Youth in Sports" through her long-term commitment to Coral Springs Youth Soccer. Fatigate has not only been cheering and coaching on the sidelines but also currently stands as President, striving to passionately foster a secure and inclusive environment. In the words of Coral Springs government website, she champions a sportsmanship culture that emphasizes teamwork, respect, and confidence amongst all players.
Janice Zaitz was recognized for "Enhancing the Lives of Coral Springs Residents." Zaitz is known for her magnanimous spirit, serving as Chair of the Coral Springs Community Chest and being a dynamic figure on the Coral Springs Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee. Her work has to consistently encourage community participation and inspired countless individuals to engage in volunteerism.
"Committed to Enhancing City Services" was awarded to Diane MacInnes for her contributions to the Coral Springs Museum of Art. Her efforts, ranging from assisting with family days and exhibition receptions to leading volunteers, have made her an indispensable part of the museum's community presence.
The "Youth Making a Difference" award went to Brody Sullivan, who notably prepared the Museum’s Studio 1 classroom for major plumbing repairs, an effort that saved the staff significant time. His willingness to help with various projects at the Coral Springs Museum of Art's Summer Camps and special events embodies the significant impact that young residents can have in their community.
As a testament to the community spirit, Coral Springs volunteers provided more than 20,000 hours of service in various city operations and programs in the past year.
