
Police are searching for four individuals following a daytime shooting Tuesday in Mott Haven that left a woman seriously injured. The incident occurred just after 4:15 p.m. in front of 383 E. 143rd Street. Emergency crews transported a 38-year-old woman to Lincoln Hospital, where she is expected to recover.
How police say it unfolded
According to News 12 The Bronx, investigators say one of the male suspects pulled a handgun from a woman’s purse before other men in the group also drew firearms and opened fire on a crowd. Police told the outlet the armed group then ran eastbound on 143rd Street into the Diego Beekman Houses and were last seen wearing black clothing.
Detectives are asking anyone who saw what happened to speak up. Authorities have provided the NYPD Crime Stoppers number for tips and say they are particularly interested in any video that may have captured the shooting or the suspects fleeing.
Violence on East 143rd Street
The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents in and around the Mott Haven Houses and along East 143rd Street. In April 2025, a double shooting at the Mott Haven Houses left one man dead and another hospitalized, according to amNY. Local outlets have repeatedly documented bystander and stray-bullet cases in the 40th Precinct in recent years, keeping attention fixed on policing and safety in the neighborhood.

Police urged anyone with information to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit tips online, per the NYPD Crime Stoppers program. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and callers may be eligible for a reward if their information leads to an arrest.
The NYPD has not announced any arrests or released the suspects’ names as detectives continue to investigate, News 12 The Bronx reported. Anyone with video or information is asked to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
