A 30-year-old man was killed early Saturday in a drive-by shooting on Chicago's Southwest Side, a burst of overnight gunfire that left a Chicago Lawn block behind police tape before sunrise.

Officers responding just before 3 a.m. found the victim on the 3200-block of West 62nd Street, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Police told ABC7 Chicago that male suspects pulled up in a silver sedan and a passenger opened fire, hitting the man multiple times before the car sped off. The victim was alone when officers arrived.

What police are investigating

Detectives from CPD's Area One unit spent the early morning canvassing the area for witnesses and any security cameras that might have caught the silver sedan or the gunfire on video.

The neighborhood has seen similar deadly incidents in recent years, including a July 2025 killing nearby that was detailed in coverage of a man fatally shot in Chicago Lawn and later chronicled by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Next steps

As of the initial report, no arrests had been announced, and police had not released the victim's name publicly. The investigation remained active, according to ABC7 Chicago.
