A fatal collision has occurred on Hwy 41 just south of Hwy 28 in Washington County, Wisconsin. The crash involved a sedan and a Dodge County Highway Department work truck and resulted in the death of the sedan's driver, the Washington County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office's Facebook post, the incident happened on Wednesday at around noon when their communication center received multiple 911 calls, one of which indicated an unresponsive individual trapped in a vehicle, the first responders found the sedan's driver deceased while the highway department truck's occupants were unharmed, the truck was making a turn, its work lights on, into a median turnaround as the trailing sedan collided with its trailer and then the guard rail. Sgt Brad Rodich provided the details of the unfortunate event, which prompted a closure of the southbound lane for around three hours for cleanup and investigation proceedings, showcasing how swiftly tragedy can strike on the road, altering lives in the blink of an eye.
The on-scene investigation, aided by witness statements, revealed that the collision occurred while the work truck was slowing to use an "Official Vehicles Only" turnaround, as stated by Sgt Brad Rodich. The sedan, traveling in the same direction, failed to adjust its speed accordingly, leading to the crash, as noted by the Washington County Medical Examiner's Office.
