What started as a late-night family dispute in Natomas ended with a son in handcuffs early Thursday, after Sacramento police say he punched his father and then turned his aggression on officers who came to the door.
Officers said the man appeared intoxicated and refused to cooperate once they tried to detain him. According to police, the situation escalated as he resisted, threatened the officers and ultimately landed in custody. No injuries were reported for the father or any officers.
Police account of the incident
Officers were called to a home in Natomas around 3 a.m., according to FOX40. The Sacramento Police Department told FOX40 that the man punched his father inside the residence before turning on responding officers.
Police said he fought with officers, "attempted to grab" an officer’s firearm, and threatened to shoot officers with their own guns. He was eventually detained and booked on multiple charges, according to the department.
Investigation and neighborhood impact
Detectives are still sorting out what touched off the assault and the tense confrontation that followed. Sacramento police said the investigation remains active as they work to piece together the events leading up to the 3 a.m. call.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the non-emergency line listed on the Sacramento Police Department website. Police did not immediately release the suspect’s name or the exact criminal counts tied to his arrest at the time of reporting.
What’s next
The early-morning arrest is another reminder of how quickly a family disturbance can escalate when alcohol is in the mix and officers are called to step in. Police say the case remains under investigation and that booking details will move through the county’s standard process.
Residents with concerns about similar problems in their neighborhoods are encouraged to use the department’s non-emergency contact options, unless someone is in immediate danger and a 911 call is warranted.
