San Fernando Valley dumpling fans are finally getting a shorter drive for their soup-filled fix. Din Tai Fung is slated to open a full-service restaurant at Westfield Topanga, right on the border of Canoga Park and Woodland Hills, sometime in 2027, giving Valley residents a much closer shot at the chain’s globally hyped xiao long bao.
What the announcement says
As reported by Eater LA, the planned Topanga restaurant will join Din Tai Fung’s existing Southern California lineup in Glendale, Century City, Arcadia and Santa Monica. The new spot is expected to serve the brand’s signature pork-and-soup xiao long bao along with noodles, wontons and a range of Taiwanese side dishes.
Din Tai Fung already lists a “Topanga” location on its website as “coming soon” at Westfield Topanga and is collecting email sign-ups for launch updates. The company has not yet shared firm construction timelines or details like how many seats the restaurant will hold.
What it adds to Topanga’s dining lineup
The arrival of Din Tai Fung continues Westfield Topanga’s recent shift toward becoming a destination for sit-down dining, not just quick errands. The mall directory now touts the Topanga Social food-hall concept alongside full-service restaurants such as STK Steakhouse and Chubby Cattle. The ongoing buildout tracks with a wider trend of malls leaning on full-service concepts to encourage longer visits and to pull in more weekend crowds.
Din Tai Fung’s footprint in L.A.
The brand made its United States debut in Arcadia in 2000, a milestone noted by Food & Beverage Magazine, and has steadily added more Southern California locations since then. Its Santa Monica restaurant opened on the top deck of Santa Monica Place in February 2025, according to Eater LA, and the chain has increasingly used major malls as anchor dining tenants.
What to watch next
Until Din Tai Fung or Westfield releases an official opening calendar, locals can look for the usual hints that an opening is getting close, such as construction permits, job listings and the launch of reservation options. For now, Din Tai Fung’s Topanga webpage remains the official sign-up hub for updates and is expected to carry the key details for opening week once those plans are set.
