A Warren man is now headed to Macomb County Circuit Court after a judge in Eastpointe bound his case over today, following a Dec. 14 shooting that left his cousin with a shoulder wound and triggered a multi-agency, high-speed pursuit. Antoine Paige Jr., 25, remains jailed with a bond set at $1,000,000 and faces multiple felony counts tied to the incident. Prosecutors allege shots were fired at two people as they left a family gathering, and the case now moves toward circuit-court proceedings in Mt. Clemens.
Prosecutors' charges
According to a press release from the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Paige is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of felony firearm, and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer. The office says Magistrate Mark J. Makowski set Paige’s bond at $1,000,000 cash or surety and noted a Habitual Offender, Fourth Offense, notice that could increase any eventual sentence. The release also lays out arraignment and preliminary-examination dates from December and January as the case was developed.
How the chase unfolded
Authorities say the episode started just after 1 a.m. on Dec. 14 in the 19000 block of Ash Avenue in Eastpointe, when an argument at a gathering escalated and shots were fired at a departing vehicle, striking a woman in the shoulder. Officers moved in on the scene, but the suspect drove off and was pursued eastbound on I-94 by Eastpointe, St. Clair Shores and Warren officers, along with Macomb County Sheriff's deputies, at speeds reported to exceed 120 mph. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed on North River Road, and officers later found the suspect hiding in canal water beneath a dock, according to ClickOnDetroit.
Court next steps
A preliminary exam this week in the 38th District Court resulted in Paige being bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court in Mt. Clemens, and his next hearing is set for Feb. 23, according to CBS Detroit. He remains in the Macomb County Jail with bond set at $1,000,000. Circuit-court proceedings will determine whether formal indictments move forward and when a trial will be scheduled.
Legal stakes and context
The assault-with-intent-to-murder counts each carry penalties of up to life in prison, and the prosecutor’s office warned the allegations are extremely serious in its press release. The filing also notes that any felony-firearm convictions would add mandatory consecutive prison terms, and that the Habitual Offender notice can amplify sentencing exposure. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office reiterated that all accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty while it continues to prepare the case for trial.
