El Paso is soaking up an unusually warm Monday, with partly sunny skies and afternoon highs climbing into the low 70s. Light east-northeast breezes will keep it comfortable for outdoor plans through the day. The mild stretch will not last long, though, as rain chances are set to return later in the week.
Tuesday Showers And Isolated Storms
A chance of showers moves in overnight into Tuesday morning, then spreads during Tuesday afternoon along the I-10 corridor and into far west Texas. The National Weather Service in El Paso notes that scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible, and a few locations, especially across El Paso and Hudspeth counties, could see a few-tenths to around a half-inch of rain, with locally higher totals. Brief heavy downpours could produce minor, localized flooding in low-lying spots, so it is smart to allow extra time if you plan to drive during the Tuesday commute.
Midweek Warmup
The system should move east by Wednesday, with the region drying out and warming again. Highs are expected to return to the upper 60s to low 70s through Thursday with light southerly breezes. Another weak system may bring a renewed chance for showers late in the week, with mountain snow possible above roughly 7,000 feet.
What To Do
No watches or warnings are in effect this morning, but it is still a good idea to stay weather-aware in case the timing shifts. Keep a small umbrella handy for Tuesday and slow down on wet roads, since brief bursts of heavy rain can make bridges and underpasses slick. Otherwise, enjoy the mild, springlike weather while it sticks around.
