He had suffered an abdominal gunshot wound, and Chicago Fire Department personnel provided initial medical care at the scene before transporting him to the University of Chicago Hospital. 5700 block has seen recent police responses
The 5700 block of South May Street has already been on officers' radar this year. The Chicago Sun-Times reported a Jan. 29-30 SWAT standoff on the same block that ended when officers entered a building and found a man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. That tense episode, combined with earlier shootings on May Street in prior years, has kept the stretch a recurring focus for law enforcement and for neighbors who are weary of the gunfire.
Investigation underway
Area One detectives are continuing to investigate the Thursday night shooting, and no arrests had been announced as of Friday, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Authorities have not released any details on a suspect or motive. This story will be updated if Chicago police provide additional information or announce an arrest.
