Former St. Paul teacher Andre Lee Jordan walked out of court Friday with a felony assault conviction but no immediate jail time after punching a student during a confrontation on school grounds in November 2024. A Ramsey County judge handed down a one-year jail sentence that will hang over Jordan for three years while he serves probation and ordered a single day in the Ramsey County Jail, which Jordan has already served. A jury had previously acquitted him of related sex-crime counts in December, yet the court still punished for the physical clash with the teen.
Sentencing details
According to KSTP, Jordan received a one-year jail term that will be stayed as long as he completes three years of probation. The judge also ordered him to serve one day in the Ramsey County Jail, with credit for one day already served. School nursing records cited in the criminal complaint state that the student ended up with an abrasion on the left knuckle and hematomas to the forehead, nose, and left eyelid.
How the incident unfolded
Court filings and earlier coverage show prosecutors originally charged Jordan with both criminal sexual conduct and assault after complaints that began months before the school fight, FOX 9 reported. The station noted that the 17-year-old student told investigators Jordan had propositioned him and that an alleged sexual incident took place after the two exchanged messages and went for a ride together in September 2024. Jordan has denied that any sexual contact occurred and told investigators the student spat in his face and lunged at him during the November 22 dispute, according to court documents.
District response and next steps
St. Paul Public Schools said Jordan was no longer employed with the district as of December 2024 and declined to comment further on the pending legal matters, KSTP reported. Court records remain the main public source for additional details, and reporters say those filings, along with school records, have formed the backbone of coverage so far.
