Somebody in Forest Park just became a millionaire and might not even know it yet. A Powerball ticket worth $1 million, sold at a neighborhood gas station in the near west suburbs, matched all five white-ball numbers in Wednesday's drawing, and the winner still has not stepped forward. In the meantime, the tiny shop that sold the ticket is buzzing with regulars swapping theories about who the lucky player might be.
Where The Ticket Was Bought And The Winning Numbers
The Illinois Lottery confirmed that the winning ticket was sold at Refiners Citgo, 7323 Randolph St. in Forest Park, according to FOX 32 Chicago. The ticket matched the white balls 27, 29, 30, 37, and 58, with a Powerball number of 15, as reported by The Associated Press.
Owner’s Reaction And The Retailer Bonus
Store owner Jagdish Singh says this is the kind of news he has been hoping to hear since taking over the station 15 years ago. "I couldn’t believe it, we’ve been waiting for this moment," Singh told Patch, adding that it is the largest lottery prize ever sold at his business.
The station will not walk away empty-handed either. For selling the $1 million winner, Refiners Citgo is set to receive a 1% retailer bonus, about $10,000, which Singh said he plans to put back into the business in the form of store upgrades.
What Powerball Players Should Know
The Illinois Lottery told FOX 32 Chicago that this Forest Park ticket is the first Powerball prize of $1 million or more sold in Illinois this year. Powerball tickets cost $2, and players can add the Power Play feature for an extra $1. Lottery officials estimated the next jackpot at about $102 million for Saturday’s drawing, so anyone feeling inspired by Forest Park’s mystery millionaire knows when to line up at the counter.
