Front Porch, the group behind the long-running Front Porch Sundays market, is packing up its tents at Atherton and leaving South End after roughly a decade. Organizers say they have spent months hunting for a “bigger and better space” and plan to reveal their new Charlotte home in the coming weeks. They have already circled Saturday, April 4, for a housewarming event that they say will kick off the market’s next chapter.
According to Queen City News, the team shared the news on social media, telling followers “we’re saying goodbye to Atherton and we’re saying goodbye to Sundays.” In that post, organizers said they had “scoured the city for a bigger and better space” and urged shoppers and vendors to stay tuned for the announcement. Queen City News also noted that Front Porch has spent about a decade in South End, with a photo credited to the market itself.
Front Porch Sundays’ Roots At Atherton
Front Porch Sundays is a monthly open-air market that has helped anchor Atherton’s stretch of the rail-trail for years, routinely drawing more than 100 vendors to South End. As outlined by Esther & Elsa Retail Events, the market has long listed Atherton at 2104 South Boulevard as its home base and typically runs a season from April through December. Atherton promotes itself as the “soul of South End,” a spot where farmers markets and pop-ups are regular crowd-pleasers.
Why The Move Matters
The First Sunday shuffle is not just about a change of scenery. The market has grown into a major draw for local makers and nearby restaurants, with Axios Charlotte reporting in 2025 that Front Porch Sundays had expanded across South End and attracted thousands of shoppers during its busiest months. That kind of turnout has turned the event into an important sales day for small businesses and a fixture on South End’s weekend retail calendar.
What’s Next For Vendors And Visitors
Queen City News reports that Front Porch has not yet revealed its next address, but organizers say they will share details “in the coming weeks” and plan to host an official housewarming on Saturday, April 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Until then, they are encouraging vendors and shoppers to keep an eye on their social channels for the location reveal and vendor sign-ups.
