In an extensive crackdown on transnational crime, 27 individuals associated with a faction of the notorious Tren de Aragua gang, known as Anti-Tren, stand indicted on numerous charges including murder, sex trafficking, and racketeering among others, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. These activities extend across New York into New Jersey and even cross national boundaries, affecting various communities.
A notable facet of the Anti-Tren's violent escapades involves the April 15, 2024, double murder in the Bronx, where victims Jhombeyker Jose Bisbal Pina and Adrian Mendoza Isturiz lost their lives to gunfire, this event marking a grim milestone in the gang's reign of terror, the indictment unveils the depth and ferocity of the crimes committed by these gang members, who allegedly engaged in the sex trafficking of vulnerable women, forced into commercial sex to pay off smuggling debts and threatened with violence should they diverge from the grim path foisted upon them.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Anti-Tren faction showed no reservation in exerting control over their victims through coordinated acts of brutality and intimidation, the organization's insidious activities didn't stop at human exploitation, as they were also involved in drug trafficking and armed robberies, the indictment also implicates some of the defendants in conspiracy to commit home invasion robbery and other violent crimes aimed at both expanding their criminal empire and silencing any dissent within their ranks.
"As alleged, these members of Anti-Tren, a splinter faction of the terrorist organization Tren de Aragua, planned and carried out a series of horrific crimes, including gunpoint robberies, murders, and the exploitation of vulnerable young women through sex trafficking," Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney, stated in a swelling show of commitment to disassemble the gang's operations and bring justice for the victims; the U.S. law enforcement bodies such as Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), NYPD, and others have been acknowledged for their investigative efforts, which have culminated in these charges, reflecting a concerted effort to combat such transnational criminal organizations. as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The phenomenon of Anti-Tren, a group emerging from the depths of prison ethos to the stages of global terror, lays bare not just the primal pursuit of power traditional to such collectives but the darker, pervasive influence that imbricates with lives far beyond the immediate reach of its perpetrators, the prosecution of the case is currently led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jun Xiang, Kathryn Wheelock, Timothy Ly, and Andrew K. Chan, further proving that these indictments are but a node in the larger web of Operation Take Back America’s mission to drive back illegal immigration and dismantle the cartels—and it's worth noting that the accused parties are entitled to the presumption of innocence until they are proven guilty.
