A Germantown man, wanted in connection with allegations of sexual abuse of a minor, was apprehended at Washington Dulles International Airport on February 1, as per the Montgomery County Department of Police. Nelvis Gonzalez Prudencio, 43, was attempting to leave the U.S. and fly to El Salvador when he was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.
The investigation of this unsettling case began on October 18, 2021, following a report by a child under the age of 12, who disclosed having been sexually abused by a relative, as officials stated. The disclosed incidents were stated to have occurred around a year prior. After a thorough investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police Special Victims Investigations Division alongside Child Welfare Services, Prudencio emerged as the primary suspect in the case.
An arrest warrant was issued on November 22, 2022, charging Gonzalez Prudencio with sexual abuse of a minor and a third-degree sexual offense. Despite an agreement to surrender to the police on November 28, 2022, Prudencio neglected to comply, leading to his eventual arrest earlier this month, officials confirmed.
The arrest warrant that was lodged into the National Crime Information Center database back in 2022 was still active when Gonzalez Prudencio was flagged attempting to board his flight. After verification of the warrant at Dulles, CBP officers proceeded with the arrest. Currently, Prudencio is being held at Loudoun County and is waiting for extradition to Maryland, as detailed by the Montgomery County Department of Police.
