Michigan police are on the lookout for a woman who recently left an unexpected and macabre item at a local Goodwill store in Chelsea: an actual human skull. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the skull was discovered among other donations at the Washtenaw County thrift shop on January 26.
A police statement posted on Facebook by the Chelsea Police Department indicated that the skull "appears to have been accidentally included" in her donations. Chelsea PD is intent on speaking with the woman in question “to confirm her decision.” This particular piece of information was confirmed by Chelsea Police Officer T. Gilbreath, who can be reached at 734-475-9122 or via email at [email protected] for any individual possessing relevant details, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
Authorities were alerted to the eerie find when Goodwill staff identified the "suspicious item" ensconced within a shirt during a routine sorting of donated goods, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. The skull did not exhibit any overt signs of damage or unusual markings. In the subsequent days, the skull was forwarded to the medical examiner’s office to undergo further examination, and as officials noted, the incident is still under active investigation.
The Chelsea PD has even gone so far as to share a security footage photo on social media in a bid to identify the donor of the skull, as gleaned from MLive. The public's assistance is being requested in an effort to ascertain whether the inclusion of the skull within a pile of donated items was indeed a mishap or something more foreboding.
