A routine Saturday afternoon in Monongahela Township turned tragic when a 7-year-old boy from Greensboro was hit and killed while crossing State Route 88. Emergency crews rushed to the late-afternoon crash, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving the small Greene County community stunned as investigators work to piece together what happened.
The collision occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on State Route 88, according to a Pennsylvania State Police public information release cited by CBS Pittsburgh. Troopers said the boy was walking westbound across the roadway when he was struck by a Honda HR-V.
Greene County Coroner Carl Rush identified the child as 7-year-old Wilson E. Churilla of Greensboro and said he was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:06 p.m., according to the Herald-Standard. The coroner’s office has not yet released additional details about his family.
State police identified the driver as 92-year-old Lewis Gipson. CBS Pittsburgh reports that Gipson was not injured in the crash. No charges have been announced as the investigation remains active.

State police are leading the investigation and have not released any findings on fault or contributing conditions so far, according to WTAE. Troopers are expected to examine factors such as lighting, sight lines, and witness accounts as they work through the case.
