Evening traffic in Kendall West ground to a halt Wednesday after reports of gunfire near Southwest 76th Street turned a busy stretch of Southwest 152nd Avenue into an active crime scene. Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office shut down the roadway, and at least one person was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.
Sky 10 cameras captured the aftermath from above, with crime-scene tape crisscrossing the street, shoes and clothing scattered on the pavement, and a wall of patrol cars lining the block. The closure between SW 74th Street and SW 84th Street quickly backed up traffic and frustrated drivers trying to cut through the neighborhood.
What officials said
According to WPLG Local 10, Sky 10 was over the scene just after 5:30 p.m., and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed the victim was transported by ground to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Deputies were seen locking down the area and stringing crime-scene tape around a patch of roadway where the abandoned shoes and clothing lay.
Investigators have not released any information about possible arrests, suspects, how many shooters may have been involved, or what might have sparked the gunfire, leaving neighbors to piece together what happened from the commotion outside their doors.
Road closures and how to avoid the area
Spot On Florida noted that the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office shut down Southwest 152nd Avenue between SW 74th Street and SW 84th Street because of the active investigation. Drivers were urged to detour around the stretch and brace for delays while detectives walked the scene and collected evidence.
Officials also asked residents in the area to review doorbell camera footage and motorists to check dash-cam video for anything that might help fill in the gaps for investigators.
A pattern of recent shootings
The shooting in Kendall West came less than 24 hours after a separate double-shooting in another part of southwest Miami-Dade, near Southwest 266th Street and Southwest 138th Avenue, that sent two men to local hospitals, one of them in critical condition, as reported by CBS Miami. In that earlier case, bullets damaged both a vehicle and a structure, and detectives from the sheriff’s General Investigations unit took over the case.
The back-to-back incidents have rattled residents from Kendall West down through the southern end of the county, who now find themselves watching patrol cars a little more closely and listening harder for sirens at night.
Investigators told WPLG Local 10 that the scene in Kendall West remains active. Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 or to share any relevant video and tips directly with detectives. The sheriff’s office has not provided further details beyond the initial report of at least one victim being transported from the scene.
