
A woman was found dead inside an apartment at Marcus Garvey Village in Harlem on Friday afternoon, according to police. Officers were called to the West 124th Street complex at about 1:38 p.m., where they discovered her body inside one of the building’s apartments. Police said the woman had trauma to her head, and her death is being treated as suspicious while the investigation moves forward.
Responding officers entered an 18-story building within the Marcus Garvey Village complex and located the victim inside an apartment, as first reported by the New York Daily News. A NYPD spokesman told the outlet that detectives were on the scene and said it was not immediately clear whether the unit was part of the development’s supportive-housing section.

Marcus Garvey Village is a mixed-use development on West 124th Street that includes 169 apartments, with nonprofit provider Urban Pathways operating supportive-housing units on-site. According to Urban Pathways, the organization delivers services to 51 supportive-housing apartments at the property, with those programs funded by the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Investigation ongoing
Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the woman’s official cause of death, and detectives were continuing to interview witnesses and review evidence, per the New York Daily News. No arrests had been reported as of Friday, and authorities had not yet released the victim’s identity. The investigation remains active as officials work to piece together what led to the deadly discovery inside the Harlem complex.
