High Street Gunfire: Cambridge Teen Shot As Cops Plead For Leads

Gunfire tore through a Cambridge neighborhood Wednesday evening, leaving a 17-year-old resident with a gunshot wound and the city police department scrambling for answers.

Officers were called to the 700 block of High Street, between Washington Street and Lincoln Terrace, where they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen, authorities said. Multiple spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, and a nearby home was also hit by gunfire.

According to WGMD, Cambridge officers were dispatched around 6:18 p.m. after a ShotSpotter alert detected multiple rounds in the area. Dorchester County EMS rushed the teen to University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge, and from there, Maryland State Police aviation flew him to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Police ask for tips

On the ground, officers marked off evidence and confirmed that more than one round had been fired, with a nearby residence struck by bullets, as reported by WMDT. No information about a suspect or suspects has been released.

The Cambridge Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case and is urging anyone who saw or recorded anything in the area to speak up. Investigators say even small details could help them piece together what happened.

Investigation underway
