On a quiet stretch of State Highway 95 in Smithville, Renegade Crawfish Company is turning weekends into a full-on crawfish mission. The family-run operation has fired up its seasonal boils, rolling out Friday and Saturday pots of crawfish alongside fried catfish and shrimp that are already drawing mudbug loyalists from around Bastrop County.
Owners Tristan and Tatelyn Moore are leaning into the weekend rush, stacking their boiled crawfish trays next to baskets of fried seafood and effectively turning their compact storefront into a standing date for anyone chasing that peppery, buttery, elbows-on-the-table kind of meal.
Hours and What’s On Offer
Renegade’s current hours run 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. According to Community Impact, the Moores start serving fried catfish and shrimp at 11 a.m. on Fridays, with boiled crawfish joining the lineup at 4 p.m. On Saturdays, all three items are available starting at 11 a.m. The business, which opened in 2024, is run as a family-owned operation.
Order Locations and Pickup
The company’s website lists the storefront at 270 State Hwy 95 in Smithville, along with the phone number (830) 263-8867. It also confirms that live-crawfish orders can be placed each week up to 5 p.m. on Tuesday for weekend pickup. The online shop highlights live crawfish sales, high-performance boilers, and the connected Renegade Rise & Grind counter, which covers breakfast and lunch service, according to the Renegade Crawfish Company site.
Season Timing
In Texas, crawfish season typically runs from late winter into spring, with peak availability often falling between February and May. That window can shift somewhat depending on the weather and harvest conditions. Reporting in the Houston Chronicle notes that March and April are commonly the busiest months for live crawfish supply.
When to Go
Per Community Impact, Renegade plans to have boiled crawfish available every Friday and Saturday through the end of the season, and the owners recommend ordering ahead, since weekend pots can sell out. Customers can place orders by phone or through the company’s website for weekend pickup windows, according to Renegade Crawfish Company.
Anyone planning a drive out is encouraged to call ahead to confirm live-crawfish availability and pickup times as the season moves along. Renegade posts weekly availability updates on its website and on social channels during boil season.
