“A hit-and-run in Poinciana on Monday around 5:53 p.m. led to a confrontation between a suspect and a Polk County deputy. The collision on Cypress Parkway at Solivita Boulevard involved a recent-model Cadillac and an older Dodge Ram. The Dodge driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended, according to a witness.
Deputies located the suspect as he tried to hail an Uber to flee. He refused to provide his identity and resisted when deputies attempted to take his fingerprints, physically grabbing a deputy, according to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report.
The deputy identified the suspect as 23-year-old Joshua Avant Sims from Davenport. Despite evidence, including the truck keys in his possession, Sims denied driving. Records show his license had been revoked multiple times due to unpaid fines and accumulated driving violations.
A search found Sims with a small amount of marijuana. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported he faces charges including battery on a law enforcement officer (F3), resisting with violence (F3), and driving with a suspended or revoked license (M1), among other offenses. He was arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.
