DeKalb County police are putting out a public call for help as they try to track down drivers involved in a late-evening hit-and-run on Interstate 85 that left a 24-year-old woman dead. Investigators say what started as a single-car crash on the northbound side near the Chamblee-Tucker Road exit turned tragic when the driver, identified as 24-year-old Karizma Love, was hit by passing traffic.
The wreck happened around 7:37 p.m. on Feb. 3 on I-85 northbound near Chamblee Tucker Road. Police say Love’s black Chevrolet Cruze slammed into the right-shoulder wall, and she got out of the car. As she moved toward the HOV lane, she was struck by multiple vehicles and died at the scene, according to CBS Atlanta. Investigators believe several vehicles may have been involved and are working to identify which cars passed through that stretch of highway at the time of the crash.
DeKalb County’s Traffic Specialist Unit is asking anyone who saw the collision or who was driving on I-85 that evening to contact investigators. Drivers who later discovered unexplained damage on their vehicles are also urged to step forward. The unit’s tip line is 770-724-7610, per Atlanta News First. Officers say even a small detail could help give Love’s family answers as the investigation continues.
Tip channels and anonymous reporting
For those hesitant to speak directly with police, the county highlights its Tip411 system, which allows residents to share information anonymously. People can download the DKPD Tip app or text the keyword “DKPD” to 847411 to submit a tip without revealing their identity, according to the county website. The DeKalb County page links to app downloads for both iPhone and Android users. Officials say all tips sent through Tip411 are reviewed by investigators as they work the case, per DeKalb County.
Legal note
Under Georgia law, any driver involved in a crash that causes injury or death must stop, provide help, and share identifying information. Leaving the scene of a wreck that results in death is a felony under O.C.G.A. § 40-6-270 and can lead to prison time, according to the state code. If investigators are able to identify the drivers involved, prosecutors could pursue hit-and-run and other related charges, depending on what the evidence shows, per Georgia Code.
Anyone with information about the Feb. 3 crash is asked to call the DeKalb County Police Traffic Specialist Unit at 770-724-7610 or send an anonymous tip through the DKPD app or by texting “DKPD” to 847411. For emergencies, call 911. More details were reported by CBS Atlanta.
