
On Saturday night, Statesville Police Department officers were called to a scene of a breaking and entering turned violent. A homeowner had been assaulted after an unknown male intruder entered her residence on N. Oakland Avenue, as reported in a social media post by the department. The victim, awakened and attacked in her sleep, managed to flee her assailant and find sanctuary with a neighbor who called the authorities.
Upon arrival, while still under the cover of darkness, the police took a suspect description from the homeowner. Close by, a male matching what the victim relayed was spotted on Alexander Street by officers. The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Ahmed Nagi Mohamed Aldaibani from Jefferson, NC, attempted to elude law enforcement on foot but was soon captured.
The victim received medical attention on-site from Iredell County EMS. In the meantime, Aldaibani faced multiple charges including Breaking and Entering to Terrorize or Injure and Assault by Strangulation. Authorities also charged him with Sexual Battery, Assault on a Female, False Imprisonment, and Resisting a Public Officer.
After being detained, the magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond for Aldaibani. This incident, jolting the community, provides a stark reminder of the unpredictability of crime and the importance of neighborhood vigilance.
