The Knightdale Fire Department recently took to social media to announce a significant addition to their firefighting arsenal. In a Facebook post, the department reported that Engine 134 has been officially placed in service at Station 4. This strategic move not only enhances the department’s operational efficiency but also marks a noteworthy expansion of the department's reach into the community.
Empowering Engine 134 to assume primary engine functions signifies a tactical shift in how the Knightdale Fire Department responds to emergency calls. The newly stationed engine will now allow its companion, Ladder 13, to stop having to operate as a "Quint"—a single unit performing multipurpose roles—and to start focusing solely on acting in a traditional ladder company capacity. This transition intends to improve the overall effectiveness of the fire service response, with vehicles now specialized and dedicated to distinct functions.
With Engine 134's deployment, the Knightdale Fire Department expands its operational footprint to four fire stations, operating three Engines (E-131, E-132, and E-134), one Rescue Engine (Squad 133), and one Ladder Company (Ladder 13). This growth is part and parcel of an ongoing process to adapt to an ever-increasing demand for emergency services, driven by the town's development and population growth.
