La Jollita, the U.S. debut of Mexico’s Grupo Los Arcos, has dropped anchor on Prospect Street, bringing a family-run spin on coastal Mexican seafood to La Jolla Village. The maritime-leaning dining room pairs ceviches and tostadas with zarandeado-style grilled fish and Baja-inspired tacos, while a heated terrace has already been drawing steady interest. Owner Alejandro Angulo, a second-generation member of the Angulo family, says the restaurant channels “the little jewel of the sea” through recipes that his family has passed down for decades.
La Jollita officially opened Nov. 10, 2025, at 1251 Prospect Street, taking over a space that previously housed Aldea and other neighborhood fixtures, according to LaJolla.ca. That coverage notes bright, ocean-inspired decor, a raw bar and a menu built around seafood sourced from Mexico. Angulo told LaJolla.ca that the name translates to “little La Jolla” and that summers spent in the village helped shape his decision to open the restaurant here.
Family Roots And Restaurant Pedigree
La Jollita serves as the U.S. outpost of a larger family network. Grupo Los Arcos notes on its site that the company traces its roots to Culiacán in 1977 and has more than 48 years of history. The group operates multiple brands across Mexico and presents the La Jolla project as a first major step into the U.S. market. That long-running lineage helps explain the menu’s emphasis on regional coastal dishes rather than a purely Americanized seafood lineup.
What To Order And How To Book
The launch menu highlights ceviches, a tuna tostada, fish zarandeado and a Gobernador taco with mole, along with a poblano clam chowder that nods to Baja and Sinaloa traditions, according to SanDiegoVille. Service at the village spot leans toward casual fine dining, with polished cocktails built to match the seafood focus. Reservations and private event inquiries are available through the restaurant’s RSVP page at La Jollita.
Early Buzz In La Jolla
The opening has already generated social buzz - clips from La Jollita have circulated on TikTok and helped stoke early curiosity, according to FOX 5 San Diego. A restaurant spokesperson, Camila Ibarra Gallego, told FOX 5 the concept is inspired by “the spirit of the Mexican coast” and leans on family recipes and techniques. Early crowds and positive word-of-mouth suggest La Jollita is quickly becoming a player among La Jolla’s newest dining options.
