Victim identified
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 29-year-old Daisy Reyes, according to MyNewsLA. The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced her dead at about 6:10 a.m., and an LAPD officer told MyNewsLA the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. Authorities rerouted Metro buses around the crash site while detectives examined the intersection.
Intersection's safety record
Balboa Boulevard and Saticoy Street has already been flagged in city collision data as one of the area’s most dangerous crossings. In an analysis of rising pedestrian fatalities, the Los Angeles Times listed the intersection among the city’s “greatest‑risk intersections,” highlighting long-running concerns about how risky it can be to cross the street there.
City safety efforts
The city’s Vision Zero program focuses on a “High Injury Network” of streets where a relatively small share of road mileage is responsible for most traffic deaths and severe injuries. The initiative calls for targeted changes such as speed reductions and engineering improvements along those corridors, according to Vision Zero. Local advocates say continued investment and enforcement are needed to keep tragedies like this from repeating at intersections already known to be high risk.
LAPD Valley detectives are investigating the crash, and the coroner has released the victim’s name as the inquiry continues, as reported by MyNewsLA. Officials did not immediately release additional details, and this story will be updated as more information becomes available.
