High-risk expectant parents in the Lake Travis area now have a shorter drive for specialized care. Texas Children’s Hospital has opened its Pavilion for Women and Specialty Care in Lakeway, bringing maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric specialty services to the neighborhood so people with complicated pregnancies can get advanced care closer to home. The clinic began seeing patients in early January and is the system’s second maternal-fetal medicine site in the Austin area. Texas Children’s says the Lakeway location was set up so local doctors can refer patients for high-risk evaluations and, when needed, coordinate hospital delivery and neonatal support without repeated trips into central Austin.
What the Lakeway Clinic Offers
At the Lakeway Pavilion, specialists evaluate and manage conditions such as maternal diabetes and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, provide advanced fetal imaging and continuous fetal monitoring, and offer in-office procedures for complicated cases, according to Texas Children’s. The opening expands access to maternal-fetal medicine in Central Texas and adds appointment capacity for local providers. “There is a growing need for specialized maternal care in Central Texas,” Dr. Melanie Belt, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Texas Children’s Austin, said in the announcement.
Staffing and Specialists On Site
The Pavilion’s Lakeway programs include maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric specialties such as pediatric cardiology and pediatric ear, nose and throat care to evaluate newborns and coordinate follow-up, according to Community Impact. Dr. Grace J. Johnson is listed as the maternal-fetal medicine physician at the Lakeway location, and the Texas Children’s provider page gives the clinic address as 101 Medical Parkway, Suite 130 (Texas Children’s provider page). Having pediatric subspecialists nearby means mothers and their newborns can be evaluated by specialists the same day if tests show a problem.
Where Patients Will Deliver
Most Lakeway patients who need hospital delivery will use nearby Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman. Baylor Scott & White’s Lakeway hospital lists labor-and-delivery services at 100 Medical Parkway in Lakeway, a short walk from the Texas Children’s clinic (Baylor Scott & White). The close proximity is intended to help teams coordinate care quickly if a mother needs a higher level of monitoring or a newborn requires hospital treatment.
Why It Matters For Central Texas
Local reporting shows the Pavilion required a permitted build-out of roughly 4,854 square feet and an estimated 3 million dollar investment, a sign of Texas Children’s push to expand specialty access outside its main campus, according to Community Impact. The arrival of the Lakeway clinic follows a local trend of hospitals adding neonatal and maternal capacity, including Baylor Scott & White’s new NICU in Round Rock that was covered in local reporting as health systems expand perinatal services to keep up with regional growth.
How To Make an Appointment
Patients can schedule with the Texas Children’s Austin network through MyChart or by contacting the system’s Austin scheduling line, and referring clinicians can route patients through standard provider referral portals. The Lakeway Pavilion is listed on Texas Children’s location pages and is accepting new referrals for maternal-fetal medicine and related pediatric specialty care.
