Neighbors on 3rd Street SE were jolted late Saturday night when police rushed to the 4400 block for reports of a shooting. By the time officers and medics arrived just after 11 p.m., a man lay mortally wounded on the Southeast D.C. street. Despite on‑scene life‑saving efforts, he was pronounced dead as homicide detectives moved in to secure the area and start asking hard questions about what happened and why.
Police response and on‑scene details
According to DC News Now, responding officers found the victim “unconscious and not breathing” with a gunshot wound. Medics attempted resuscitation at the scene but could not revive him. As the block stayed cordoned off, investigators collected evidence, documented the scene and canvassed nearby homes for witnesses or security footage that might shed light on the killing.
How to report tips
Police are asking anyone who may have seen or heard something to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727‑9099 or to anonymously text tips, photos or video to 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department says the tip line is monitored around the clock and that callers can remain anonymous. Investigators stressed that even small details can prove critical in homicide cases.
What’s next
As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been announced, DC News Now reported. The Homicide Branch continues to process the scene, pull any available video and follow up on leads as the search for a suspect or suspects continues.
