
An early morning welfare check on the 700 block of Lawton Road has turned into a homicide investigation, after Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers found a person with apparent trauma and MEDIC pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Crime Scene Search officers processed the area, and police say the case remains active and ongoing.
What police say
According to a press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to a check-the-welfare call shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday. Homicide Unit detectives, Crime Scene Search, Operations Command and Victim Services all responded to the location. The release identifies Detective Murphy as the lead investigator and lists the report number as 20250215-0606-00.

Crime Scene Search investigators collected physical evidence at the scene, and representatives from MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department assisted at the location, according to the department’s news release.
