Pangaea Bier Cafe, the Curtis Park taproom and bottle shop that helped put Sacramento on the map for imported and craft beer, is set to pour its last pints at 2743 Franklin Blvd. on March 19, 2026, the owners announced. Rob and Kin Archie said the decision follows unsuccessful lease negotiations and that they will look for a new Sacramento-area home for the concept.
As reported by Abridged, the news dropped in a social media post and in a phone interview with owner Rob Archie. The post set March 19 as the final day at the Franklin Boulevard address and said the Archies hope to reopen elsewhere in the region.
Lease Talks Collapsed, Owner Says
“We were proposed with something to stay there, and it just wasn’t even close to fathomable,” Rob Archie told Abridged in a phone interview. Archie told the outlet that negotiations with the property owners, identified in the report as his father, Lee, and Lee’s partner, Hanju Morrow, had “proved fruitless,” prompting the decision to set a closing date.
A Neighborhood Anchor for Nearly Two Decades
Archie opened Pangaea in 2008 after playing basketball in Europe and built an early reputation for imported Belgian styles, a deep bottle shop and a rotating tap list, according to the Urban Roots press profile. The tap house’s Pangaea Burger became a local legend: CapRadio reported the burger took home multiple Sacramento Burger Battle honors, including a sweep of judges and people’s choice awards in 2018.
What’s Next for Pangaea
The Archies said they want to bring a new “Pangaea 2.0” to the Sacramento area and will begin scouting for spaces, and their social post encouraged followers to watch the cafe’s channels for updates. For now, the Franklin Boulevard location will remain open through March 19, and the owners asked patrons to follow the cafe’s Instagram and website for reopening news and relocation details.
Pangaea’s closure marks another change for Curtis Park’s small-business landscape, but Rob Archie’s broader hospitality work, including Urban Roots and other neighborhood concepts, suggests the team will keep pursuing local projects. We will update this story if the Archies announce a new address or reopening timeline.
