What started as a late-night outing near the Legacy 8 Event Center on Wyoming Avenue in Royal Oak Township ended with a man in the hospital yesterday. A 41-year-old man was shot once during an altercation outside the venue and taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where police say he is in stable condition. Michigan State Police say detectives began collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses shortly after arriving, and they are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward, according to CBS Detroit. Investigators drafted a search warrant for the scene as they worked to pin down how the confrontation turned violent. The victim's name has not been released.

Local context
Royal Oak Township has seen serious gun violence in the past year. A party at Royal Oak Township Park on June 22, 2025 left one person dead and three others injured. That case and others have highlighted the challenges investigators face when large crowds are present and witnesses are reluctant to cooperate, per Hoodline.
Michigan State Police say the investigation into Tuesday's shooting is ongoing and that updates will be released as new information becomes available. Anyone with video from the area or details about the altercation is urged to call the tip lines.
