A late-night traffic stop in Lincoln Park escalated quickly today, after deputies with Harris County Precinct 6 say they pulled over a car driving without its lights and uncovered two stolen handguns along with suspected narcotics. The driver was arrested on the spot and later booked into the Harris County Jail.
In a statement to MyTexasDaily, Harris County Precinct 6 reported that Sgt. Garcia and Sgt. Ipina stopped the vehicle for driving without lights and then conducted a search. Deputies say the driver, identified as Lashante Crawford, was found with crack cocaine, marijuana and two handguns that had been reported stolen. Crawford was arrested on allegations of being a felon in possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance before being transported to the Harris County Jail for booking and processing.
Stolen guns remain a local concern
Law enforcement and federal agents have repeatedly warned that stolen firearms are a steady pipeline for violent crime, often taken from cars or burglarized shops across the Houston area. For example, ABC13 reported that thieves stole more than 30 guns from a west Harris County pawn shop during a 2024 storm outage, and the Houston Chronicle has documented how stolen weapons can later resurface in local crimes.
Charges and possible penalties
Under Texas law, a convicted felon caught with a firearm can be charged under Texas Penal Code §46.04, a third-degree felony. The statute allows for penalties that can include two to 10 years in prison and fines. Crawford's arrest and any formal charges will move through Harris County's criminal justice system.
