On a cold morning in Baldwin, the body of 79-year-old Bruno Castro was found in the snow near his home on Grand Avenue. According to NBC New York, Castro was taken to a nearby hospital after being discovered, where he was later pronounced dead.
Sources told News 12 Long Island that Castro, known to neighbors for his regular walks and frequent purchase of scratch-off tickets, may have been affected by the night’s frigid temperatures, which dropped to single digits. It was unclear when he went outside or how long he had been exposed, as he typically left around 8 p.m. for his walks.
Residents of the Grand Avenue apartment complex expressed concern over the incident. Neighbor Cecilia Quintanilla described the prompt arrival of an ambulance at the scene, while Sadie Mario told NBC New York that Castro had existing medical conditions that, along with the severe weather, may have contributed to the outcome.
The Nassau County Police Department responded to a call regarding the assisted case, which led to the discovery of Castro. The cause of death has not yet been determined and is under investigation by the Nassau County Medical Examiner's Office.
