The Lorain County Sheriff's Office has recently highlighted Deputy Smith in recognition of Black History Month. Deputy Smith, sworn in by Sheriff Jack Hall in July 2025, is bringing an extensive background in law enforcement and community service to his new position as a School Resource Officer at Firelands, following the departure of Deputy Trifiletti. The information, detailed in a social media post from the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, gives insight into the experience Deputy Smith carries into this role.
With a professional journey spanning over 28 years at the Stow Police Department, he dedicated 20 of those years serving as the School Resource Officer at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. His tenure also includes a leadership stint as President of the Ohio School Resource Officers Association from 2017 to 2019. After retiring in 2024, Deputy Smith pursued a new opportunity within the Lorain County Sheriff's Office to continue his community service. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in business, promising a blend of academic insight and on-the-ground expertise to his duties.
Deputy Smith is not just about enforcing safety, his passion lies in fostering positive interactions with youth and bridging the gap between law enforcement and students. "He is honored to join the Firelands community as its new School Resource Officer. He already feels warmly welcomed by students, staff, and families. He looks forward to building strong relationships and helping keep our schools safe every day," Smith expressed, as reported by the Lorain County Sheriff's Office's post.
