A late-night police response just east of the Las Vegas Strip turned into a homicide investigation Thursday after a man was found fatally wounded along Paradise Road. Officers discovered the victim in the area, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, prompting partial closures on Paradise for several hours while detectives got to work.
What police say
Preliminary details from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department indicate the call came in shortly after 8:30 p.m. from the area of Paradise Road and Edison Circle, south of Sierra Vista Drive, according to KTNV. Responding officers found a person "who had several wounds and was unresponsive," police told the station, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Metro said there was no suspect in custody as of Thursday night, and the department’s Homicide Section has taken over the investigation.
Separate shooting nearby earlier Thursday
Just a few hours before the homicide call, officers had already been in the same general area working another violent scene. Police responded to a separate shooting less than a mile away on Sierra Vista Drive near University Center Drive that left two people in critical condition, according to FOX5.
Officers found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 5 p.m., the station reported. Detectives were searching for suspects, and authorities had not announced any arrests in that earlier case by Thursday night.
Traffic and public-safety notes
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department warned that traffic on Paradise Road would be restricted for several hours and urged people to steer clear of the area if they could, KTNV reported.
Homicide detectives were expected to canvass nearby businesses and review surveillance footage as they gathered evidence. Officials said the scene would remain active while investigators worked to figure out what led to the man’s injuries and death.
