Manatee County and the School District of Manatee County are set to give the park at Martha B. King Middle School a much-needed facelift, thanks to a partnership focusing on community recreation and student facilities.

According to a recent announcement, the upcoming renovations at the park will include a spate of new and improved features aimed at bolstering usability and safety for both the students and the locals; this will involve adding four pickleball courts, upgrading tennis courts, a children’s playground, and a pavilion, the parking area is due for a reconfiguration providing 23 standard and 2 ADA-accessible spots and the asphalt is getting re-sealed as well.

Beyond enhancements for play and leisure, the plan also emphasizes ease of access and environmental considerations through the inclusion of a 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk alongside better fencing, screening, and well-defined entrances on 9th Avenue Northwest and 75th Street Northwest, while existing amenities like restrooms, open field space with upgraded irrigation, and improved stormwater retention areas will be retained and upgraded within the overall park design.

The redevelopment will include native and Florida-friendly plants to improve the park’s appearance and support the local environment, according to a Manatee County news release. “This project is about more than improving a park—it’s about strengthening a partnership that benefits the entire community,” said District 3 Commissioner Tal Siddique. County officials said they will continue working with the School District and will share updates as the construction timeline develops.
